The Wilderness
First Responder course at Skamokawa Center and
certification of graduates is provided by Wilderness
Medical Associates. WMA is the leading
medical training program in the United States for outdoor
enthusiasts, outdoor professionals, medical professionals
and others who want the best possible training to prepare
themselves for medical emergencies in remote and other
situations where hospital care is delayed or beyond reach. |
| |
 |
 |
Class
days will be long and 100% attendance
is mandatory. Teaching includes lectures supported
by visuals, reading assignments in the evening,
and a great deal of hands-on training. WMA
is known for its experiential approach to training
with as many real life scenarios as possible
including the use of fake blood and theatrical
makeup. Classes taught by professional WMA
instructors are fast-paced with an emphasis
on practical skills, including full-scale rescue
simulations, fake wounds, stage blood and all. |
| |
 |
 |
Successful
completion and certification is based
on passing the written exam and practical skills
session. In the program you can expect long
days of classroom and simulation work, homework
in the evening, intense interaction with classmates
and instructors, and physically demanding outdoor
simulations, rain or shine. Graduates receive
a certification card. WMA maintains permanent
records so you or an employer can call to verify
certification at any time. |
