SPRING BIRDING WEEKEND

Skill Level: Beginner
Kayak Tour Dates and Times:
April 26-27
Price: $210 double (single occupancy add $50); includes lodging and lunches.

Two days of paddling include a visit to one of the region's most important bird areas, Grays Bay. Here the waters of the Columbia begin to turn salty in a broad shallow bay that attracts both freshwater and saltwater species of birds. On day two, an optional early morning walk into the Julia Butler Hansen National Wildlife Refuge offers an opportunity to find songbirds that are hard to see from the water, including neotropical warblers, vireos, tanagers and flycatchers. Our kayak trip will begin in Cathlamet and paddle one way with the outgoing tide through the Sitka spruce swamps of the refuge. Along the slough are active Osprey nests and colonies of Purple Martins. Complete details are HERE.
